Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2014

Techno couture.

Alexander Wang is calling Balenciaga's Pre-Fall collection "techno couture" and it's pretty easy to see why. The collection is a hybrid mix of classic Balenciaga cuts with the kind of sportswear-inspired digital minimalism that Wang excels at.

There's pixellated prints on voluminous, old-school shapes, oversized cocoon coats with aquazips, bonded wool with spiral detailing, polyurethane patches and one helluva evening gown.

Performance fabrications, snowboarding references and huge pieces of hardware over shone the heritage touches of the design house in the end though — but only just. Shout out to those epic Flying Nun-esque winged shoulder pads. Strong.
