Courtney Love: I Tried To Help Peaches Kick Drugs

After witnessing the extent of her addiction.
Courtney Love is not adverse to weighing in on things, and in this area in particular — addiction — she has some wisdom to share. While speaking to a UK publication recently, Courtney spoke about how she tried to help the late Peaches Geldof after witnessing the extent of her addiction to opiates. She told it like this:
"My drug was heroin. I stopped taking it in the 90s, but I have taken pills — the OxyContin. Peaches was in a room with a friend who had a bag full of these drugs, like 500 pills and I wanted it so badly, never have I ever wanted anything more — no man, no money — and I had to physically push Peaches and her friend out of the door."
She continues, "I was shaking and I kept thinking of the way her mother died and I thought I owe it to this girl to be an example. I was trying to help her, but at that point in her life, it proved to be impossible. Now the parallels to her mommy are horrific. It terrifies me for my own child." Courtney added that she's grateful her own daughter Frances Bean Cobain is 'sensible' saying, "We're great now, we live four doors down from each other in LA. She's 21, an avid reader; she's read all the classics. And she's so fucking beautiful, like Angelina beautiful, a little TOO beautiful, it's freaking me out. She's been offered every luxury campaign you can imagine, but she's not interested."
When Courtney learnt about Peaches' tragic death, she was shocked, but not by the involvement of heroin. She said, "You just can't believe it happened, it's so f***ing tragic. This girl was vivacious, so full of life and it was weird and horrible that she has passed away. I read heroin was involved and I was not shocked. I know how Peaches liked opiates."
