Epic Supercut Shows All The Ways 'Stranger Things' References 70s & 80s Classics

Close encounters.

If you have even basic knowledge of 80s kids movies like E.T., Stand By Me and The Goonies, you probably would have picked up on at least some of the visual references that the Duffer brothers packed into their Netflix show Stranger Things. But a new supercut, created by superfan Ulysse Thevenon, shows just how deep their love for 70s and 80s movies goes.

Set to familiar synth-y sounds, the supercut places scenes from Stranger Things beside their OG inspiration — showing how scenes in the Upside Down mirror sci-fi classics like Alien and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, while the more horror-inspired parts of the series take their cues from movies like Poltergeist, The Shining and Nightmare On Elm Street

But it's E.T. that definitely gets the most love, and if you didn't pick up that Eleven is basically a human (ish?) version of that loveable lil alien, this supercut will make it pretty damn clear. Watch and learn below.
