Gillian Jacobs Talks Abortion Storyline And Getting Hired For 'Girls'

Necessary.
Gillian Jacobs took on the role of Mimi-Rose Howard in Lena Dunham's Girls last season. A character who instantly came across as a pretentious art d-bag.

But Mimi-Rose is also a definite boss – especially in reference to her lack of reliance on dudes and no-big-deal attitude towards a common medical procedure called abortion. Necessary.

You might remember her casually owning the decision, as a reason for not going for a run with Adam. And responding to his hissy fit, "It was smaller than a seed pearl, It didn't have a penis or a vagina." Providing a really important piece of dialogue for so many humans.

In a recent interview, Gillian spoke about the script, "I know that Jenni and Lena work with Planned Parenthood and they consulted with them on the show. So, I thought it was very well done."

It's the same no self-judgement approach to the whole deal that Obvious Child delivered so well. "It felt like a continuation of that conversation. Hopefully there's continued space for women to tell different sorts of stories in that arena," She said.

She also talked about joining the cast, "It's going to sound fake, but I was walking down the street in New York, I could tell that something was shooting and in the back of my head I thought, 'Maybe it's Girls.'"

"I found myself kind of on the set… hanging out by the monitor with Jenni, and she said, 'Oh, have they spoken to you about the part?' I said, 'What are you talking about?' She's like, 'Oh, we were thinking about you for this role!'" Destiny.
