Get To Know: Ffixxed Studios, Champions Of Home Comfort And Cool Fashions
If the design duo behind FFIXXED STUDIOS could fix one thing in fashion, it would be to get everyone to just relax a bit more. We met up with Aussie-bred/China-based designers Fiona and Kain (call them Fi and Pickens) at their showroom after their show during Paris Fashion Week and talked comfortable daywear and giant live-in scarves.
What are your names? Fiona Lau & Kain Picken
What are your nicknames? Fi & Pickens
What are your ages? 31, 36
Fiona, tell me about the piece you are wearing tonight…
Fiona: Tonight I'm referencing an Ikea bath mat. We've been reinterpreting custom-weaving lately, because it's a shame to waste fabrics. Each piece is unique.
Kain: We're all about home comfort. The idea of combining two things and giving it a new context. We don't work thematically. Our work is an ongoing dialogue related to things we experience in everyday-life.

How many cooks cook in your kitchen?
None! We just eat at a vegetarian Buddhist restaurant everyday.
Where did you grow up and where are you living now?
We both grew up in Melbourne but now live between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.
How important is that place, and the creative community there, to your work?
We work between Hong Kong and Wutong Mountain in Shenzhen. Wutong is a really relaxing place where we can think and have physical and mental space and there is an amazing community emerging in Shenzhen. Everyone is really supportive and positive. Hong Kong's great when you need to be more connected with the outside world, there is also a new generation of designers that are really interesting and a lot of support for young designers.
Tell us something you love, and something you hate, about the city...
We love that it can be so easy to get things done. It's a city made for working, but the down side is it can be hard to really relax.
What are you most excited about at the moment?
We're really excited about the feedback from our AW17 Paris show, and we are now looking forward to a few days holiday in Portugal and Mariselle.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
That sounds crazy, you totally do it.
What causes or issues are important to you?
We think that it's vital that women have 100% control of their bodies.
If you could change one thing about the fashion industry what would it be and why?
Everyone just needs to relax a bit (especially us), it's just fashion!
When do you feel the most free?
When we're away from the studio and have no internet connection.
What song was playing at your show?
It was mixed by Bell Towers, Schmoltz - 'Ze Sky Iz Blu' and T-t-tool - 'Mozaika'
Can you describe the collection in three words?
Comfort Mobility Everyday
What was the inspo behind the collection this season?
We were looking at these moving blankets and we hand-wove all these left over fabrics into new garments. We're also thinking about domestic spaces and activities and how they can be translated into the outside world.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Accountant / artist
