Patti Smith's 'Just Kids' Is Going To Be The Best TV Show Ever
Because the night.
Patti Smith's heartwrenching, beautiful, perfect memoir Just Kids is getting a series adaptation for Showtime. As you'd expect from Patti, she's steering the thing as co-writer and co-producer. The other co- is John Logan, creator of Penny Dreadful, of which Patti is a big fan.
Just Kids, published in 2010, documents Patti's relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe, as well as her edging into the lives of Janis Joplin, William Burroughs and Jimi Hendrix in the 60s and 70s.
"A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation," Patti said in her statement. "The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book."
There's no release date just yet, but Patti's second memoir M Train is due in November.
