Remembering Skateboarding Hero & Best Guy Dylan Rieder

Golden boy.
Dylan by Gavriel Maynard (2014)

28-year-old skateboarding phenom Dylan Rieder passed away yesterday from complications caused by leukaemia, following a two year-long battle with the disease.

The impact of his death on skateboarding and the world at large has been immediate, with many heartbreaking tributes going out to one of the sport's favourite sons.

Carving his niche in what is already a counter-culture, Dylan was a true iconoclast, bringing a literally stylish approach to the sport and a trademark mixture of power and grace that saw him win over skateboarding – and cross over into fashion – with the greatest ease.

Whether it be in his breakout ender in Transworld's A Time To Shine:The sombre Gravis production Dylan:Or modelling with Cara Delevigne, Dylan's raw style and talent on board and off was undeniable, elevating him to legend status even prior to his untimely death.

On his largely undisclosed battle with cancer, Fucking Awesome teammate and 2015 Skater of the Year Anthony Van Engelen said in tribute: "You were one of a kind my friend. A fighter till the end. You will be in my heart forever; thank you for your friendship. Love you bro."

Shine on, golden boy.
