Research Officially Validates Your Love For The Spice Girls

Caution: Infectious material.

A new study has just confirmed what we've known all along — the music of the Spice Girls is the catchiest of all. A recent study has found that 'Wannabe', the first single from the girl power and pizza-friendly group has zig-a-zig-ahed it's way into the collective unconscious and is now the most catchy song ever.

In the study, 220 of the world's bestselling songs since 1940 were polled using an interactive online game where over 12,000 participants could 'buzz in' when they recognised the track. 'Wannabe' scored an average of 2.3 seconds, compared with the average of up to five seconds for other tracks.

That game, Hooked On Music, will also be available to the public until the end of the year. Grool. Oddly enough, Lou Bega's 'Mambo Number Five' and Survivor's 'Eye of the Tiger' both scored higher than Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' — proving that catchiness is not substitute for quality. Unless you're the Spice Girls, then we'll forgive everything.
