Runway Report: Givenchy Does Epic Face-Jewels For FW15 @ PFW

Shine bright like a diamond.

Riccardo Tisci's been dabbling in facial jewellery for a while now — memorably, with OTT jewelled septum rings at Givenchy Couture SS12 — but this season, he totally one-upped himself. Models sported glittering gems all over their faces: dotted over earlobes, accenting cheekbones and clustered on nearly every other available surface. If stacking your bracelets is an arm party, then this was a face party.

Also cool: the très FKA Twigs hairstyles, which were apparently inspired by the styling choices of Mexican-American Chola girls. Tisci has long been drawn to Catholic iconography, so it was interesting to see how he delved further into Latin archetypes and imagery.

As for the clothing, Tisci investigated Victorian mourning tropes, with panelled, fit-and-flare velvet dresses, frock coats and corsets delivering some dark and romantic vibes. While inky, funereal black made up the majority of the range, opulent shades of blood red and midnight blue added dimension, and recalled the traditional colours of the Virgin Mary (there's that Latin connection again).
