Runway Report: Warrior Princesses At Sass & Bide FW15 @ LFW

Where robots meet samurais.

Heidi Middleton and Sarah Jane Clarke may have left the building, but their aesthetic — so familiar, so instinctively recognisable — lives on. In the hands of the label's new creative director Anthony Cuthbertson, Sass & Bide has gone from strength to strength.

Cuthbertson was inspired by a recent trip to Japan when designing the range, taking references like vintage kimonos, samurai jackets and robots. Yes, robots! The sexy, glamorous kind.

Filtering these references through Sass & Bide's glamour warrior spirit, Cuthbertson utilised obi belts, boxy haori shapes and armour-like embellishment for a cool, samurai vibe.

While Sass & Bide has always felt at its most right dealing in breezy summer dresses made for Southern hemisphere climes, Cuthbertson used clever layering bring the brand into winter territory: cocoon coats were styled over skirts over leather pants, while luxe knits and fur hats added textural interest. We want it all.
