Sonic Youth Release First Track From 1986 Demo Tape 'Spinhead Sessions'

Feel the noise.

Kim Gordon and co are throwing it all the way back to 1986 with a new old song called 'Theme With Noise'. The never-before-heard track comes from a never-before-heard demo tape that Sonic Youth recorded after Evol, while they were working on the score for Ken Friedman's black comedy crime flick Made in U.S.A

The band released a soundtrack album for Made In U.S.A. back in 1995, but before that soundtrack was complete they also got a rehearsal session down on tape that's pretty different from the music that eventually appeared on the final version. Thankfully, the band is gearing up to release that unheard music on a new album called Spinhead Sessions, and today we've been given our first preview via an instrumental track.

'Theme With Noise' starts out slow, with a somewhat mournful melody picked out on guitar, while twinkling percussion builds in the background. It all leans towards an understated, moody climax before snuffing out. Dramatic stuff.

Watch out for the full Spinhead Sessions, to be released on June 17, 2016.
