The Horrors Cover Beyonce
Listen to 'Best Thing I Never Had' here.
If you dig beneath the surface of sculpted haircuts and sperm-murdering jeans, The Horrors are actually entirely capable of making good music (as well as looking good). Testament to this is their latest offering, a cover of Beyonce's 'Best Thing I Never Had', recorded for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. They're on opposite sides of both the musical and aesthetic spectrum, but the UK indie rockers have taken a stab at the pop star's song and we're just going to put it out there: it's tenfold better than the original. Tenfold, we say! (Really, it's not her greatest work. It's no 'Countdown').
It's obligatory to mention that The Horrors have hues of The Birthday Party and The Cure, but the vocals on this track echo more of Billy Idol than Nick Cave or Robert Smith. In short, this song is the best thing the 80's never had. Listen for yourself:
